Nap Rant

A great pet peave of mine:  When people don't understand that naps are VITAL.  If my child does not get one he WILL melt down in public.  I know it's hard to understand for some that I need to be home at a certain time of the day so that my toddler can sleep.  But schedules ARE important and I'm sorry if you don't get it.  You will someday when you have a toddler yourself or you've just forgotten what it's like with a toddler in the house.  My kid is NOT just a crabby kid or misbehaved - HE IS TIRED.  If he doesn't smile at you or laugh or giggle, he's not mad at you, annoyed with you, or anything else that has to do with YOU.  He is TIRED.  Please don't take offense.  As we transition to afternoon naps only it will be more and more important to be home during the early afternoon times like say 1 to 3 or 4.  We will be unavailable until he wakes up.  I am NOT going to live with a cranky crying kid and deprive him of much needed rest.  ESPECIALLY while pregnant or with a newborn for that matter.

I'm terribly sorry if this rant offends anyone...  It is not directed at a specific person in case you are wondering.  Just sitting here listening to Aaron scream in his crib and dreading the fact that he will be cranky all evening when his daddy is FINALLY off work and wants to love on him.

  1. It is hard to be a mom. It is hard to say no to people. It is hard to be strict. You are doing a good job, and I am sure you haven't offended anyone.

  2. Thanks Am - I've since cooled off a little and realize that most of my frustration was really about myself and my inability to say no. I'm going to have to work on that. : )
